Biophilic Design

Connecting people with nature to improve their lives
and wellbeing through intentional design

What is
Biophilic
Design?

The principles of biophilic design stem from the idea that humans have a positive connection with nature. To benefit from this fully, biophilic design asks that we include plants, flowers and other natural materials such as wood, water and sunlight intentionally into design.

As professionals in the plantscaping space for 45+ years, we have seen firsthand that interior and exterior plant design can transform a space and the people in it. From creating a magical atmosphere at a gala to crafting a relaxing oasis for hotel guests, we know that no design is ever complete without a green touch.

How Plantscaping & Blooms uses
biophilic design principles

At Plantscaping & Blooms, our design process starts with a consultation. We work hard to understand your space, your needs and your budget. Then, we begin on crafting a custom design, and our expertise in biophilic design means we are always looking to bring the benefits of biophilia through style to your space.

We have the technical skill, design sense and capacity to add both large and small biophilic elements. We can build impressive living walls to truly bring the power of plants into your space, but also work with impactful touches and even faux options that still make a big difference.

No matter where plantscaping leads you, we are committed as horticultural specialists to introducing the benefit of plants to your in- and exteriors through design. Whether you want to add energy to your office, tranquility to your waiting room, or catch attention with a feature centerpiece to an entryway, we understand what plants and design elements can come together to the best effect.

As industry leaders, we are always learning and innovating. We are continually working alongside our industry peers to follow the development of biophilic design, changing trends and new techniques. We see the impact plants can have on people every day in our work, and are driven in our professional practice and continual learning to share that with every client on every project.

Benefits of Biophilic
Design for Healthcare

Biophilic design brings enormous benefits to healthcare settings. A literature review of biophilic design research in hospital settings between 2010 and 2023 found that “biophilic design in hospitals reduces hospitalization time, patient mortality, pain levels, and stress for healthcare providers”. Plants and other biophilic elements can impact patients, doctors, visitors and other healthcare workers to create a better therapeutic environment.

Hospitality providers know that a guest’s experience starts as soon as they approach your space and can be shaped both by wow-factor elements and small details. In one study, biophilic design increased guests’ positive impressions of hotels which the researchers posit can have downstream effects on rebooking and word of mouth.
